The Top Ten Stag Locations
By Alex G. Smith Stag parties are very popular, especially in Europe. Men who are getting married usually plan these events to celebrate the transition from singlehood to married life. Grooms-to-be usually leave the planning of their stag parties up to the wedding party, and usually the best man is in charge of all the arrangements. If the best man is not in charge then someone on the wedding party or someone in the grooms family usually will make the arrangements. Stag parties take place in quite a few European cities, and some of those cities include the following:
1. London: Stag party groups can enjoy a friendly competitive game of paintball, or they can participate in a fast go karting race. Other stag party activities that take place in this city include clay pigeon shooting and hovercraft racing. A bachelor and his wedding party can mix and match a variety of these activities together for their own unique stag party package. Additionally, stag party participants can enjoy a night on the town. 2. Bournemouth: Yacht rides are available here along with some of the highest quality hotel accommodations. There are also inexpensive rooms available in this city at various hostels, and there are quaint guest houses for rent as well. 3. Budapest: For a memorable experience some groups would prefer a Hungarian stag weekend party. After a few days of wild partying with the guys Hungarian style the groom can meet his bride by the Danube River to celebrate the beginning of their lives together. There are stag weekend packages already designed for both the groom-to-be and the rest of the wedding party and other stag party attendees. Party packages can be made tailored to the needs and desires of an individual group. 4. Newcastle: A group of activities that bachelors can participate in is casino night. They can also take a booze cruise or they can visit some of the finest night clubs features lap dancing ladies. Stag weekend packages in Newcastle are usually designed to include accommodations and certain admission fees, and in some cases the cost of a party package includes items such as drinks. 5. Prague: A stag party group can take part in fine dining and socialize in some of the most upscale clubs located within Prague. Additionally, grooms-to-be along with the rest of the wedding party and group of single men can 6. Bristol: Both locals and visitors can enjoy celebrating the end of singlehood in the city of Bristol. There are budget party packages as well as packages designed for those of which money is no object. 7. Dublin: Engaged men and their wedding parties are more than likely not to be bored while participating in a stag party in this city. In fact, entire weekend trips are often planned for what could be called one of the most important celebrations of his lifetime. One very popular activity that takes place in Dublin is that of deep sea fishing. Another one would be taking part in fun sports such as archery or paintballing, or to join in on a day of clay pigeon shooting or even to go horseback riding. 8. Newquay: There are Newquay packages that are designed for any budget. One of the most exhilarating activities that stage weekend attendees could involve themselves in is waveskiing (waterskiing), or just simply lying on the beach. 9. Riga: Riga is the Capital City of Latvia. This is considered one of the most popular travel destinations in Europe. Riga is rich with historical sites of pre-WWII times. Stag party groups may find themselves involved in friendly yet competitive 4x4 off road racing as well as visiting one of the many clubs located in this area. Additionally, they may even meet some of the most beautiful women in the whole world. 10. Leeds: This is the third largest city in the UK. Horse racing takes place in this city, as well as football matches. Rugby and cricket are also very popular here. When it gets to be nighttime many people like to go dancing in the city of Leeds, as well as enjoy local cuisine. An entire stag party can be planned online. Additionally, there are also similarly structured parties that are tailored to bachelorette ladies. Those are called hen parties, and more about these will be addressed in future articles. Alex works for Stag Party organisers, Stag Party, who are european stag party specialists, who arrange tailored stag and hen party events around the UK and Europe. Family Cycle (I) - Euphoric and Dysphoric Cycles in Marriage
By Sam Vaknin Despite all the fashionable theories of marriage, the narratives and the feminists, the reasons to engage in marriage largely remain the same. True, there have been role reversals and new stereotypes have cropped up. But the biological, physiological and biochemical facts were less amenable to modern criticisms of culture. Men are still men and women are still women in more than one respect. Men and women marry for the same reasons: The Sexual Dyad formed due to sexual attraction and in order to secure a stable, consistent and permanently available source of sexual gratification. The Economic Dyad To form a functioning economic unit within which the economic activities of the members of the dyad and of additional entrants will be concentrated. The economic unit generates more wealth than it consumes and the synergy between its members is likely to lead to gains in production and in productivity relative to individual efforts and investment. The Social Dyad The members of the couple bond as a result of implicit or explicit, direct, or indirect social pressure. This pressure can manifest itself in numerous forms. In Judaism, a person cannot belong to some religious vocations, unless he is married. This is economic pressure. In most human societies, avowed bachelors are considered to be socially deviant and abnormal. They are condemned by society, ridiculed, shunned and isolated, effectively ex-communicated. Partly to avoid these sanctions and partly to enjoy the warmth provided by conformity and acceptance, couples marry. Today, a myriad of lifestyles is on offer. The old fashioned, nuclear marriage is one of many variants. Children are reared by single parents. Homosexual couples abound. But in all this turbulence, a pattern is discernible : almost 95% of the adult population gets married ultimately. They settle into a two-member arrangement, whether formalized and sanctioned religiously or legally or not. The Companionship Dyad Formed by adults in search of sources of long-term and stable support, emotional warmth, empathy, care, good advice and intimacy. The members of these couples tend to define themselves as each other's best friends. It is folk wisdom to state that the first three types of dyad arrangements suffer from instability. Sexual attraction wanes and is replaced by sexual attrition in most cases. This could lead to the adoption of non-conventional sexual behaviour patterns (sexual abstinence, group sex, couple swapping, etc.) or to recurrent marital infidelity. Economics are not sufficient grounds for a lasting relationship, either. In today's world, both partners are potentially financially independent. This new found autonomy corrodes the old patriarchal-domineering-disciplinarian pattern of relationship. It is replaced by a more balanced, business like, version with children and the couple's welfare and life standard as the products. Marriages based solely on these considerations and motivations are as easy to dismantle and as likely to unravel as is any other business collaboration. Social pressures are a potent maintainer of family cohesiveness and apparent stability. But being enforced from the outside it resembles detention rather than a voluntary arrangement, with the same level of happiness to go with it. Moreover, social norms, peer pressure, social conformity cannot be relied upon to fulfil the roles of stabilizer and shock absorber reliably. Norms change, peer pressure can adversely influence the survival of the marriage ("If all my friends are divorced and apparently content, why shouldn't I try it, too ?"). It is only the companionship dyad, which appears to be enduring. Friendships deepen with time. While sex deteriorates, economic motives are reversible or voidable, and social norms are fickle companionship, like wine, gets better with time. Even when planted on the most desolate land, under the most difficult and insidious circumstances this obdurate seed sprouts and blossoms. "Matchmaking is done in heaven" goes the old Jewish saying but Jewish matchmakers were not averse to lending the divine process a hand. After closely scrutinizing the background of both candidates male and female a marriage was pronounced. In other cultures, marriages were arranged by prospective or actual fathers without asking for the embryos or the toddlers' consent. The surprising fact is that arranged marriages last much longer than those, which are, ostensibly, the result of romantic love. Moreover: the longer a couple cohabitates prior to the marriage, the higher the likelihood of divorce. So, romantic love and cohabitation ("getting to know each other better") are negative precursors and predictors of marital longevity, contrary to commonsense. Companionship grows out of friction within a formal arrangement, which is devoid of "escape clauses". In marriages where divorce is not an option (due to prohibitive economic or social costs or because of legal impossibility) companionship will grudgingly develop and with it contentment, if not happiness. Companionship is the offspring of pity and empathy and shared events and fears and common suffering and the wish to protect and to shield and habit forming. Sex is fire companionship is old slippers: comfortable, static, useful, warm, secure. We get attached very quickly and very thoroughly to that with which we are in constant touch. This is a reflex that has to do with survival. We attach to other mothers and have our mothers attach to us. In the absence of social interactions, we die younger. We need to bond and to create dependency in others. The marital cycle is composed of euphorias and dysphorias (which are more of the nature of panic). They are the source of our dynamism in seeking out mates, copulating, coupling (marrying) and reproducing. The source of these changing moods is to be found in the meaning that we attach to our marriages. They constitute the real, irrevocable, irreversible and serious entry into adult society. Previous rites of passage (like the Jewish Bar Mitzvah, the Christian Communion and more exotic rites elsewhere) prepare us only partially to the shock of realizing that we are about to emulate our parents. During the first years of our lives, we tend to view our parents as omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent demigods (or complete gods). Our perception of them, of ourselves and of the world is magical. All are entangled, constantly interacting, identity interchanging entities. Our parents are idealized and, then, as we get disillusioned, they are internalized to become the first and most important among the myriad of inner voices that guide our lives. As we grow up (adolescence) we rebel against our parents (in the final phases of identity formation) and then learn to accept them and to resort to them in times of need. But the primordial gods of our infancy never die, nor do they lie dormant. They lurk in our superego, conducting an incessant dialogue with the other structures of our personality. They constantly criticize and analyse, make suggestions and reproach. The hiss of these voices is the background radiation of our personal big bang. Thus, to get married, is to become gods, to commit sacrilege, to violate the very existence of our mother and father, to defile the inner sanctum of our formative years. This is a rebellion so momentous, so all encompassing, touching upon the very foundation of our personality that we shudder in anticipation of the imminent and, no doubt, horrible punishment that awaits us for being so presumptuous and iconoclastic. This, indeed, is the first dysphoria, which accompanies our mental preparations. Preparedness is achieved at a cost of great consternation and the activation of a host of primitive defence mechanisms, which lay dormant hitherto. We deny, we regress, we repress, we project to no avail. The battle is waged and it is horrific to behold. Luckily, only its echoes reach our consciousness and only in our dreams does it find a fuller (though more symbol laden) expression. This self-induced panic is the result of a conflict. On the one hand, the person knows that it is absolutely life threatening to remain alone (both biologically and psychologically). A feeling of urgency emerges which propels the person with a great thrust to find a mate. On the other hand, there is this feeling of impending disaster, that he is doing something wrong, that an act of blasphemy and sacrilege is in the making. Getting married is the most terrifying rite of passage. The reaction is to confine oneself to known territories. The terra cognita of one's neighbourhood, country, language, race, culture, language, background, profession, social stratum, education. The individual defines himself by belonging to these groups. They imbue him with feelings of security and firmness. It is to them that he applies in his quest to find a mate. There, in the confidence of yore, he seeks to find the security of morrow. Solace can be found in familiar grounds. The panicked person can be calmed and restored among his peers and (mental, economic, social) brethren. No wonder that more than 80% of the marriages take place among members of the same social class, profession, race, creed and breed. True: the chances to come across a mate are bigger within these groups and associations but the more predominant reason is the comfort that it provides. The dysphoria is replaced by an euphoria. This is the euphoria, which naturally accompanies any triumph in life. Overcoming the panic is such a triumph and not a mean one at that. Subduing the internal tyrants (or guides, depending on the character of the primary objects) of yesteryear qualifies the young adult to become one himself. He cannot become a parent unless and until he eradicates his parents. This is patricide and matricide committed with great trepidation and pain. But the victory is rewarding all the same and it leads to feelings of renewed vigour, new-found optimism, sensations of omnipotence and other traces of magical thinking. The adult is ready to court his mate, woo her, hypnotize her into being his. He is full of the powers of life, of hormones, of energy. He gushes forth, he resounds with the tintinnabulation's of a better future, his eyes glint, his speech revives. In short, he is immersed in romantic love. Being a suitor is a full time emotional job. The chances of success are enhanced the more mentally and emotionally available is the youth, the less burdened he is with past unresolved conflicts. The more successfully resolved the previous, dysphoric phase the more vigorous the ensuing euphoric one and the bigger the chances of mating, generation and reproduction. But our conflicts are never really put to eternal rest. They lie dormant in the waiting. The next anti-climatic dysphoric phase transpires when the attempts to secure (the consent of) a mate are met with success. It is easier and more satisfying to dream. Fighting for a cause is always preferable to the dreariness of materializing it. Mundane routine is the enemy of love and of optimism. This is where all dreams end and harsh reality intrudes with its uncompromising demands. The assent of the future spouse forces the youth to move forward in a path which grows irreversible and ominous as he progresses. The emotional investment is about to acquire economic and social dimensions. The weight is growing heavier, the commitment deeper, the escape remoter, the end inevitable. The person feels trapped, shackled, threatened. His newfound stability flounders. He staggers along a way of no return leading to what looks like a dead end. The strength of these negative emotions depends, to a very large extent, on the parental models of the individual and on the kind of family life that he experienced. The worse the earlier (and only) available example the mightier the sense of entrapment and resulting paranoia and backlash. But most people overcome this stage fright and proceed to formalize a relationship. They get married in a religious institution, or in a civil court, or sign a contract, or make their own arrangements. The formality resides in the institutionalization of the relationship not necessarily in the choice of the legal host. This decision, this leap of faith is the corridor, which leads to the palatial hall of post-nuptial euphoria. This time the euphoria is mostly a social reaction. The new status (just married) bears a cornucopia of social rewards and incentives, some of them enshrined in legislation. Economic benefits, social approval, familial support, the envious reactions of the younger, the expectations and joys of marriage (freely available sex, children, lack of parental or societal control, newly experienced unrestrained and almost unconstrained freedoms). All these infuse the person with another magical bout of feelings of omnipotence. The control that he exercises over his "lebensraum", over his spouse, over his life is translated into a fountain of mental forces emanating from the person's very being. He feels confidence, his self esteem skyrockets, he sets high goals and seriously intends to achieve them. To him, everything is possible, now that he is left to his own devices and is supported by his mate. With luck and the right partner, this frame of mind can last and be prolonged. However, as life's disappointments accumulate, obstacles mount, the possible sorted out from the improbable and time inexorably passes the feeling of well being and of willingness to take on the world and its challenges abates. The reserves of energy and determination dwindle. Gradually, the person slides into a dysphoric (even anhedonic or depressed) mood which colours his entire life. The coloration stops at nothing. The routines of his life, their mundane attributes, the contrast between the glamour of our dreams (however realistically construed) and the reality of our day to day existence these erode his previous horizon. It tends to shrink and imprison him in what looks like a life sentence. He feels suffocated and in his bitterness and agony, in his fear of entrapment, he lashes at his spouse. She represents to him this dead end situation. Had it not been for this new responsibility he would not have let his life atrophy thus. Thoughts of breaking loose, of going back to the parental nest, of revoking the arrangements agreed upon begin to frequent the troubled mind and to intrude upon al planning. Dismantling the existing is a frightening prospect. Again, panic sets it. Conflict rears its ugly head. Cognitive dissonance abounds. Inner turmoil leads to irresponsible, self-defeating and self-destructive behaviour. A lot of marriages end here. Those that survive do so because of children. In his quest for an outlet, a solution, a release of the bottled tensions, an exit from numbing boredom, from professional inertia and "death" both members of the couple (providing they still possess the minimal wish to "save" the marriage) hit upon the same idea but from different directions. The woman finds it an attractive and efficient way of securing the bonding, fastening the relationship and transforming it into a long-term commitment. Bringing a child to the world is perceived by her to be a "double whammy" (partly because of social and cultural conditioning during the socialization process). On the one hand, it is in all likelihood the glue to cement the hitherto marriage of fun or of convenience. On the other, it is the ultimate manifestation of her femininity. Children are, therefore, brought to the world as an insurance policy against the disintegration of their parents' relationships. Love and attachment follow later. The male reaction is more compounded. At first, the child is (at least unconsciously) perceived to be an extension of the state of entrapment and stagnation. The man realizes that a child will only "drag him deeper" into the quagmire. The quicksand characteristics of his life seem to be only amplified by this new entrant. The dysphoria deepens and matures into full-fledged panic. It then subsides and gives way to a sense of awe and wonder. As it increases, it becomes all-pervasive. A psychedelic feeling of being part parent (to the child) and part child (to his own parents) ensues. The birth of the child and his first stages of development only serve to deepen this odd sensation. Child rearing is a difficult task. It is time and energy consuming. It is emotionally taxing. It denies the parent long obtained achievements and long granted rights (such as privacy or intimacy or self-indulgence or even sleep). It is a full-blown crisis and trauma with potentially the severest consequences. The strain on the relationship of the parents in enormous. They either completely break down or are revived by the common challenge and hardships. A period of collaboration and reciprocity, of mutual support and increasing love follows. An euphoric phase sets in. Everything else pales besides the little miracle. The child becomes the centre of Narcissistic feelings, of hopes and fears, the heart of an emotional tornado. So much is vested and invested in him and, initially, the child gives so much in return that it blots away the daily problems, tedious procedures, failures, disappointments and aggravations. But this role of his is temporary. The more autonomous a child becomes, the more knowledgeable, the less innocent the less rewarding, the more frustrating, the sadder the scene, the more dysphoric. The children's adolescence, the dysfunction of a couple, the members of which grew apart, developed separately and are estranged set the scenery and pave the way to the next major dysphoria: the midlife crisis. This, essentially, is a crisis of reckoning, of inventory taking, a disillusionment, a realization and assimilation of one's mortality. The person looks back and sees how little he has achieved, how short the time left, how unrealistic his expectations were and are, how alienated he is from his society, his country, his culture, his closest, how ill-equipped he is to cope with all this and how irrelevant and unhelpful is marriage is. To him, it is all a fake, a Potemkin village, a facade behind which rot and corruption have consumed his life and corroded his vitality. This seems to be a last chance to recuperate, to recover lost ground, to strike one more time. Aided by others' youth (a young lover, students, his own children, a young partner or consultant, a start up company) the person tries to recreate his beginnings in a vain effort to make amends, not to commit the same mistakes twice. This crisis is exacerbated by the "empty nest" syndrome (as children grow up and live the parental home). A major topic of consensus, a catalyst of interaction between the members of the couple thus disappears. The vacuity of the relationship, the gaping hole formed by the termites of a thousand marital discords is revealed. It is the couple's chance to fill it in with empathy and mutual support. Most fail, however. They discover that they lost faith in their powers to rejuvenate each other. They are suffocated by fumes of grudges, regrets and sorrows. They want out into a fresher (younger) atmosphere. And out they go. Those who do remain, revert to accommodation rather than to love, to co-existence rather to experimentation, to arrangements of convenience rather to revival. It is a sad sight to behold. As biological decay sets in, the couple heads into the ultimate dysphoria: ageing and death. When to Plant Vegetaibles
By Chip Phelan Planting times for vegetables and other annual plants vary from species to species. In much of the United States the prime consideration is the date of the last spring frost/freeze. Many vegetables can be planted up to four weeks before the last frost, while others need to wait until a couple of weeks after the frost. Another consideration is the date of the first fall frost/freeze. In northern latitudes, where summers can be short, the length of time some vegetable species take to reach maturity (most notably tomatoes and peppers) make it necessary to plant vegetable seeds indoors and then transplant the seedlings outside at the appropriate time. Other vegetables and fruits, such as winter squashes and some melon varieties, seem to do better when planted as seeds directly where they are going to stay. With maturation times up to twelve weeks, it may be critical to get vegetable seeds planted as early as it is safe to do. If you have a short growing season, and wish to grow these crops, choose vegetable varieties that will reach maturity within a safe time period for your area. My personal observation has been that vegetable seed crops planted at their earliest safe date are less likely to fall victim to insects than later plantings. If you have a small vegetable garden its not too difficult to reseed if a surprise late frost damages a particular crop. Many vegetable plants that are planted in the spring can be planted again towards the end of the season. Again, it is important to know what date you can expect the first frost. By understanding the times and length of frost free weather in your area you can have a better chance for success in your vegetable garden. The National Climatic Data Center has a data sheet online that can be downloaded as a pdf file or viewed online. The data sheet contains frost/freeze information for over 3000 U.S. locations. The information is presented as a table, listed in alphabetical order by state and then selected towns within each state. Be aware that this information is based on 29 years of data gathering from 1951 to 1980, and that they are statistical in nature and cannot unequivocally predict exact dates for any given locality in any given year. Biodynamics and Phenology use astrological and natural occurrences to discern clues about the best time to plant and harvest vegetables. Native Americans and other earlier civilizations used similar techniques. Most areas consist of microclimates that vary by elevation, exposure and proximity to large bodies of water. The Freeze/Frost Tables are a good reference point, but it makes sense to keep track of temperature and other factors in your particular vegetable garden location if you want to truly understand when it is actually the best time to plant vegetables. Lose Weight Fast A Balanced and Simple Diet For All
By Sacha Tarkovsky Dont be fooled. There is no universal miracle diet, but there are some guidelines that if you follow, you will lose weight fast and be slim. The way to lose weight fast is based on food choices, proportions and realistic aims. Whats a healthy diet? As there are now endless variety of diets its difficult to know exactly what is healthful and what isnt. To understand, lets examine the basics regardless of the type of diet you follow. Carbohydrate: 50-60%, Protein: 10-20% Fats Up to 30%. This mix is accepted widely apart form the far out diet community, that go on about no fat or no carbohydrate and the way to lose weight. In fact this is not a way to lose weight fast; its a way to get ill. Think about it: If fat and carbohydrate were so bad why are they part of the natural food chain? 2. Self & portion control. The majority of diets that lose weight fast are successful simply because they are very good at helping people to control themselves, and also to plan the food they will eat and how much. You should eat at least 3 - 6 times a day and this will have the affect of eliminating hunger pangs and thus you will not over eat, but you must be sensible with portion control. So what is portion control? Well think about it like this. You are eating in dinner you have meat vegetables and carbohydrate to consider. Look at the palm of your hand and thats the size of a baked potato you can have or as much chicken By eating regularly you will suppress hunger and if you use the palm method of portion control you will be getting the right amount to eat 4. Variety. All healthful diets have a minimum of 40 to 100 different food-types weekly. Obviously the reason for this is by including a wide-variety of foods increases your chances of obtaining the required amounts of essential nutrients. Foods are vitamin and mineral composition is food-specific and you need variety to get all the nutrients. A good variety also keeps you from becoming bored and disinterested in lose weight fast diet and quitting before you have achieved your aim Vegetables and Fruits This means eating fruits and vegetables at least 5 times a day. This can include frozen, canned, dried and pure juices as well as fresh. Also included in this group are beans, including baked beans, pulses and lentils. Carbohydrates Your diet should also include 5 portions of carbohydrates daily. Eat as naturally as possible, so have brown rather than white rice wholegrain bread rather than white etc This group includes breakfast cereals, pasta, rice, noodles, oats and other cereals, potatoes, bread and sweet potatoes. Include at least one food from this group at each meal. Dairy Products 2-4 servings daily is the recommended healthy eating level. This will include milk; yoghurt and cottage cheese are included in this group, but not butter and cream. Serving sizes in this group vary, depending on how concentrated the food is, e.g. 1 serving of milk is 175 ml, a serving of yoghurt is 125g and a serving of cheese is 50g. Stick to these portions and go for low fat varieties i.e. skimmed or semi skimmed milk. Animal Protein & Alternatives 2-4 servings daily choose low fat if your healthful eating plan is for losing weight. This group includes eggs, poultry, and meat and fish. If any of these are processed food products they can be high in fat. You must be very careful of processed foods. Also in your natural animal protein trim visible fat from meat and poultry. Alternatives are non-meat sources of protein such as nuts, tofu, mycoprotein, textured vegetable protein (TVP) and kidney beans. Fats & Sugars Try to eat good fats and avoid sugar. Remember saturated fats are bad unsaturated fats are good. The foods that are high in bad fat and/or sugar are butter, margarine, oil, mayonnaise, cream, crisps. Soft carbonated drinks, sweets and jams are also high in sugar. Foods that are high in both fats and sugars are cakes, chocolate, biscuits, pastries and ice-cream. However, a healthful diet does include fat. These should as stated be only unsaturated fat e.g. olive, sunflower and corn oil. You have heard about the benefits of oily fish, make sure you get at least 3 portions a week. They contain omega 3 and are great for overall health. Good sources include: Mackerel, sardines and salmon The secret of losing it and keeping it off The real way to lose weight fast is to lose weight at a steady pace and not crash diet, as the only way to lose weight fast longer term is to make sure you keep it off and losing weight fast means being realistic Forget all the miracle diets, follow the above advice and you will lose weight fast and in a healthy manner. Is it Time to Rewrite the Holy Books? (2)
By Elaine Sihera For years afterwards I pondered on what kind of religion thrives on perpetual, personal unhappiness for its gratification. What kind of godliness seeks merely to cause pain and anguish when one's time on earth is so short? What kind of worship concentrates only on the negative and nasty things of life so that confessions of sins take precedence over confessions of goodness? What kind of god prefers someone living in a hell of a marriage, or in 'sin', and depriving themselves of love and affection in preference to starting all over again with a new partner in mutual blessing and spiritual joy? What god indeed prevents females from developing themselves to the fullest, condemning them to a life of inequality? Could it be the same one found in the holy books which were written by men, for a male dominated society, to fuel the power of men, while deliberately repressing the development of women to avoid any competition, and deny them their rights to ensure the continuity of unchallenged male power and control? The Bible is God's word, I am frequently told. But who guaranteed it to be so? How do we really know? It was truly inspired writing, that is certain, by people who felt a deep need to shout their feelings to the world - and we are told they had the benefit of God actually walking among them! But as it has mainly been based on word of mouth, no one in our age can ever say for sure. And if we live by what the Bible says to the letter, to the exclusion of all else, not only would we still be doing some pretty violent things to our fellowmen, but could we also not be missing the inspiration of our own prophets in our own age? Which age has a monopoly on a direct link to God? How do we know that new prophets and disciples are not being nurtured now? In fact, could we have stopped listening to God because we have become so enmeshed in our own arrogant web of self-sufficiency and the straitjacket of self-righteousness and outdated beliefs, we are far removed from what God might want of us? The Bible is etched on my memory to such an extent, having been immersed in it at an impressionable stage in my life, that whole passages - beautiful ones about charity and love, and nasty ones about brimstone fire float about regularly. I also remember every book in the Bible since my rote learning over 40 years ago! Yet I cannot identify with it in any way. As I do love God, I am constantly plagued by what sort of god not only looks like one race of people, carefully matching each ethnic group, but only mentions those of one colour in His special book, making me, and millions like me, non-existent, especially if he is responsible for all of us, we are made in his image and likeness and he loves us all equally! What sort of god punishes the faithful while those who couldn't care less hardly seems to be punished at all? Preserving and Maintaining Control
There is no doubt that Christian ideals are under seige, especially with the gay and women's issues, because there are too many anomalies in their execution. But that is the problem with any unchanging and inflexible religion which is created and dominated by one group or one gender in society. It reflects only their likenesses and belief, tolerating no examination or criticisms. Interpretations tend to be dogmatic, insular, being favourable only to the interpreters, in order to preserve and maintain their control of God's word. Years from my childhood, human beings are still not allowed to be fallible, to enjoy their life as given, otherwise they will be punished severely and forever. We must be perfect beings in God's sight, there being little godly love available for any defaulter. Yet, if all God wants are people to punish, then it can't be the same God I worship. I am a very spiritual person and I have always felt close to my God, guided and blessed by Him daily in my life. Regardless of my actions I have never felt that I would be punished. As long as I am not offending anyone, I have never felt that I have sinned. Maybe this is because my God is one who values everyone, regardless of gender, or race, sexuality or attitude, strength or weakness. Being naturally superior, he does not need to punish us weaklings for using the assets and brains He gave us! In fact, I have always felt there would be forgiveness, love and patience - and not in another life either, but right here and now! I have been so loved and protected throughout my life, it is difficult to explain this to a non-believer and I have not even encouraged my children to share it. If they do not understand my feelings, they would only pay lip service to please me. They have to discover it for themselves too. My gradual change in life pattern, emphasising how I treat my fellowmen here on earth, with respect, care and value, seems light years away from the constant guilt and hopelessness I felt as a youngster when blind acceptance of vows made when I was too young set me unquestioningly on the path of a spiritual hand-me-down, devoid of personal appreciation or meaning. Living in a manner which reflects my love, faith and beliefs is the greatest gift of God and it should speak louder than superficial words mumbled in church just before I go out and vilify my neighbour. Trapped and in Anguish
Each human being is unique, unlike any other. Why should we be cloned in a religious mass of stultifying conformity? A group of people offers only support, mutual friendship and recognition of our feelings. They should not dictate our spirituality. Each of us is responsible for our own souls, making our dealings with our God an intensely personal matter. If you feel trapped and anguished by your faith, more comfortable with hatred than love, instead if peace, tranquility and a sense of purpose, you may be worshipping the wrong god, reading from the wrong book or associating with the wrong people who would seek to control your soul through threats and hell fire than with love and peace. It could be time to examine what your holy book is saying and ask precisely what relevance it has to you as a child of the 21st century - for your life, aspirations and expectations. Whether men who practise sexism and racism, wage war and promote constant conflicts, men without love who sanction murder in God's name, the ones who would easily kill you without mercy to impose their beliefs and maintain their power, are really the best mediators between you and your God. It is also worth asking whether the concentration on the afterlife is not an excuse to to evade our real responsibilities to each other here on earth. Obviously, we don't have to strive for love, understanding and togetherness now because should we kill, maim and pillage, a vengeful God, who is on our side, is waiting to forgive us when we die! "The Church is put into the world not to live on past history but to make history," said Graham Kendrick, the hymn writer. I couldn't agree more. But what new history is being made by an obsession with past prophets, past books and past values which increasingly disregard our own achievements, which negate our vibrant and diverse present, which puts religion above us and denies us our unique future? Grow Your Own Bonsai
By Greg J. Hansward The Japanese and Chinese have been cultivating bonsai trees for hundreds of years. These dwarf-potted plants have become very popular in the US since World War II and it is a wonderful artistic endeavor that needs patience and skill. You must think of your bonsai as a delicate balance between the plant itself and the vessel that it is held in. The two must be perfectly melded together to create the beautiful miniature. The bonsai can be grown both outdoors in a pot or even in the ground or they exist in nature in tropical areas. The dwarf pomegranate is one such example of this. Only plants with small leaves should be used to when creating a bonsai plant or else it will look very odd compared to the trunk and branches. Maple, zeikova, or ginkgo plants can be wonderful as a bonsai. The best bonsai are created using plants that have small trunks and gnarled features. This type of plant can be procured in a nursery or in nature. There are many designs of bonsai pots, which is an important aspect when it comes to creating the right tree. They are usually about 2 25 inches across and 1 to 10 inches in depth. Some pots are made from clay, some are glazed, but they should all have the correct drainage holes. You can get different type of soil for your bonsai, but the soil should be able to provide adequate moisture and food while also giving good drainage and allowing plenty of airflow. Usually the soil should be arranged in different layers according the properties of the soil itself. The topsoil should be mossy or small pebbles to add to the aesthetic. The middle layer should be fairly fine and the bottom layer should be the coarsest of them all. Begin your bonsai project in the springtime. This is the best time to start. Youll have to put it in new pots as your plant grows and changes. Sometimes you will need to repot your bonsai up to twice a year, but others only require repotting every few years. Usually once a year is adequate. You should do this the same way you initially potted your plant each time. The best time to start developing a bonsai is in the spring. Repotting will be required as the plant becomes established and starts to grow. Some bonsai need repotting twice a year; others only every few years. The average is once a year. The process followed is the same as for the original potting. There are no set rules for cultivating a bonsai plant. Usually you have to learn how to prune, thin, and pinch out the growths over time. You need to control how the plant grows and create interesting lines. You can wrap wire around the branches to do this or add stiff rods to influence the direction. It can be hard at first to create a bonsai plant. This is normal and you must remember that the art of the bonsai is full of discovery. You may take years to fully understand how to do it correctly, but dont give up and follow these tips to create your own bonsai. Greg Hansward routinely publishes online reports on subjects dealing with tool storage and woodworking machinery. Working on his detailed writings on workbenches and woodworking machinery the writer affirmed his know-how in the field. Marketing Myth #2: It Is Not Important To Know What You Don't Know
By Mary Eule This is the most pervasive, far-reaching and detrimental marketing myth of them all! It is an equal-opportunity fantasy whose believers are corporate CEOs; entrepreneurs; male and female; young and old; rich and poor; tall and short; moms and pops; etc. It is also the most difficult one to correct because the patient doesnt know he/she is ill! It serves as the foundation for prejudice, ignorance and failure and influences all of the sufferers decisions and behaviors personally and professionally. Ironically, this myth often serves as the very basis for becoming an entrepreneur in the first place. Michael Gerber, in his classic book, The E-Myth, says that most small businesses are started by technicians (folks who are proficient at some skill) who have an entrepreneurial seizure. Just because they know how to do the work of the business does not mean that they know how to run a business that does that work. For example, just because a hair stylist knows how to cut hair, does not mean he/she can run a hair styling business. This is a classic case of not knowing what you dont know. For instance, any business run in the U.S. today has to understand how the following business requirements (just to name a few) impact them and how they must comply on a daily/monthly/yearly basis: Payroll taxes
Workmens compensation
Local and State Income Tax Laws
Local and State Sales Tax Laws
Business Licensing
Profit and Loss Statements
Overhead Expenses
Financial Reporting Requirements
Employee Management
Human Resource Regulations
OSHA Regulations
Social Security, Medicare Benefits
Withholding Taxes
Actual costs of running a business
Quarterly Tax Payments The problem arises when technicians assume that all they need to know is the work of the business, not how to run a business. The actual costs of owning and operating your own company are far greater than the expenses associated with your rent, office furniture, utilities, etc. Because of this many small business owners never earn a true profitone that allows their business to grow, and provide them sufficient income to enjoy the lifestyle they envisioned when they began. Essentially, theyve traded one job for another. Before they collected a paycheck, now they must earn a profit the two are not the same. They are responsible for paying themselves and well as all of their other business partners federal, state, city, and local governments; city municipalities; employees; suppliers, etc. Herein lays the trap Most entrepreneurs do not know what they dont know and go into their business thinking Im the best widget maker; therefore my business is bound to be successful! Statistics say otherwise. (To learn more about Michael Gerbers E-Myth theories visit his website at: www.emyth.com). The person who knows HOW will always have a job. The person who knows WHY will always be his boss. Alanis Morissette Then there are a group of people that I call know-it-alls . The business world is full of these people, and unfortunately they are their own worst enemies. Why? There are a myriad of specific reasons but they all begin with their reluctance and/or refusal to seek wise counsel. Essentially, they do not believe that its smart business to pay experts for their years of study, experience and expertise. For instance, just because they can write their own ad copy (i.e. it doesnt require a license or certificate) they think they should! These are the very same folks who would diagnose their own diseases and write their own prescriptions if it werent against the law! What they fail to see is that for every one dollar they spend paying experts, they potentially save five dollars in actual money and even more in wasted time; preventable mistakes; lost earnings and stress. However, marketing is not the only area these misguided know-it-alls reside. Although the industry certainly has more than its fair share (even though study after study confirms that a company is only as successful as its weakest skill) it is prevalent in every field. On the other hand, there are many more folks who are far from insufferable know-it-alls. They actively seek counsel, but sometimes simply dont know where to begin, who to contact or the right questions to ask! I experienced this firsthand as I began working on my website, (www.StrategicMarketingAdvisors.com). Tip I had no delusions that I was an expert in Internet marketing right from the start no problem. Yet, as I learned more about the process, I became more and more panicked. Cyberspace jargon is like a foreign language to me and the more I tried to do myself, the more lost I became. And it wasnt as though I did want the help! Quite the contrary but I was so lost that I didnt even understand what I really needed, let alone who to contact! Gratefully, I used my tried-and-true methodology and baby-steps process and found a wonderful coach who made all the difference! The philosophical concept is not difficult to grasp but identifying our own level of incompetence is another story all together. Like most things it begins with an open mind and heart; insatiable curiosity; careful research and a very large mirror! And what makes it even more challenging is the opposite fact There are many marketing strategies and tactics that even a beginner can use successfully. Im not suggesting that you hire an expert for everything! However, you must first learn one from the other. Its like trying to save a few bucks by changing your cars oil yourself Now this is not an overly complex task, and one even I can manage. But is it a smart thing to do? Think about whats involved you drive to the store; wait in line; ask questions; look at the merchandise; select the oil, pan, funnel; wait in line to check-out; pay the cashier $24.97; drive back home; try to jack up the car so you can get underneath it to put the pan in place; undo the screw; get some oil in the pan; get most of the oil on you; get the funnel and fill it with the new oil; figure out what to do with the old oil; close everything down; throw your oil-laden shirt in the trash; and take a shower. The cost? $24.97 in stuff; $1.32 in gas; $25.00 ruined shirt; 3.25 hours of your time; and $1,000,000 in frustration All this, when you could have had it done for you for $25.00!! Lesson learned: Know whats best left in the hands of professionals. Low cost is not always best cost! Oh, and by the way, never try to hang your own drywall either! Trust me on this one. However, there are times when doing it yourself is smart! If youve got better than average computer skills or design talents its easy to create things like business cards, letterhead and bill stuffers but please, unless youre an ad buyer by trade, do not buy, book or design any media (especially TV and radio) by yourself! But more about that later Classic Symptoms of a Myth #2 Believer They Dont have a marketing plan because their business, organization, industry, product, service, customers, location, you-name-it is different than anyone elses and they just dont need it Never seek out wise counsel on most things, more particularly relating to marketing insights Make facts fit beliefs Base decisions on broad assumptions which may not be true Never start with their customers needs because theyve never taken the time to find out what they are Conduct little, or no, research on customers, competition, and their marketplace Believe that all customers are worth getting, and all are worth keeping Dont differentiate they dont understand why very ordinary is very bad Latch onto a cool product without understanding the marketplace first Buy media from salespeople Think people need to be sold (No one wants to be sold anything but everyone loves to buy something) Reinvent the wheel Dont know how, or refuse to, borrow success from others Copyright 2005 Mary Eule Mary Eule specializes in helping small and medium-sized businesses get and keep profitable customers. Dating Military - The Rules of Engagement
By Keith Londrie Have you always wanted to date someone in the military? You are not alone, as civilians dating military personnel is becoming increasingly common in the dating community. Women love men in a uniform, and men love a woman who knows how to take care of herself. Dating military personnel could be perfect for someone seeking a devoted relationship that wont get discouraged easily. The military member must work hard on making it clear that he/she will be away at times or move every couple of years. The civilian must be able to accept these facts of military life in order for the relationship to work out. There are web sites available on the Internet for meeting single military personnel. Civilians seeking someone in the military, as well as people serving in the military are welcome to post and view ads for free at "Military Date". You could join "Dating Military Singles" to meet good people, have fun, and find romance. You will find that some sites charge a fee for premium membership but also offer a free membership for those who do not wish to pay. Dating military personnel while in the military is also an option. It is quite unique to share a devotion to serving your country with someone you are in love with. Of course, you will have to also deal with possible separation if you have a different deployment location. A long distance relationship can be difficult in another city or state, its difficult to imagine how hard it could be if you are in two different countries. A strong emotional connection is the most important part of a relationship. Dating military people makes this especially true. They spend everyday in dangerous situations and need a strong partner to confide in. Remaining loyal is the biggest struggle for a civilian dating someone in the military. Days can go by without getting to hear from the one you love. If you are capable of working out a long distance relationship, it could be the more rewarding relationship you have ever been in. Military members are trained to be disciplined and respectful. It is not uncommon to find a devoted military member that would be true to you. I have know military members to be very structured in their environment. Their training goes a long way in changing the life of a military member, and that will be reflected in their actions. A Guide to Online Bachelors Degrees
By Dan Ho In the past, a degree was a badge of distinction. While it still has some of the same allure today, a degree is now considered almost a necessity to make a satisfactory living. In today's competitive world, continual learning has become an integral part of success. People serious about financial stability will find the time and exert the effort required to achieve a degree. Individuals who were thrust into the demands of life and family responsbilities before being able to complete college in the past were at a decided disadvantage because it wasn't feasible for them to go back later and get that degree. Thankfully, with the advent of online bachelors degrees afforded by educational institutions who have acknowledged complicated life situations such as job and family committments, people can now go back and finish that degree and move ahead in the world. Pursuing an online accredited bachelors degree enables students to move beyond the limitations and inconveniences of attending a college campus, or university. In short, online bachelors degrees afford people the flexibility of setting their own pace. However, if you want your degree to be recognized by employers in the real world you should make sure you focus only on an online accredited bachelors degree. Accredited universities are the most prestigous. There are some unscrupulous degree mills out there who will take your money and offer you worthless degrees. One should not assume that just because typical B.S and B.A degrees require 4 years that you will necessarily spend the same number of years getting an online bachelors degrees. Indeed, if you really push yourself, such degrees can be achieved in as little as 18 months. It is determined that individuals attaining a bachelors degree make on an average $20,000 more dollars a year than those with only a high school diploma or equivalent. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the average annual income for high school graduates is $27,038. However, those with a bachelors degree enjoy a starting annual income of $51,206. Online learning presents a prospective future, but there are certain universities one must know to look for. It is essential the university chosen offers a legitimate online accredited bachelors degree program. Getting that bachelors degree can mean not only more money and a better life for you and your family, but more pride and an immense feeling of accomplishment. Guaranteed To Treat Leaky Gut Syndrome
By Farrell Seah Leaky gut syndrome is characterized by the increased permeability of the gut in response to excessive irritation and inflammation of the intestinal walls. Because this increased permeability leads to the improper functioning of the gastrointestinal tract, it can have a tremendous impact on several body processes, and is an underlying factor in the development of most food allergies and autoimmune diseases. Although leaky gut syndrome has become increasingly common and can be effectively treated through colostrum supplementation, physicians often overlook the disorder when diagnosing and treating the symptoms associated with it. Inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract increases its permeability through the formation of large spaces, or gaps, between the cells lining the intestinal walls. Whereas larger molecules entering a healthy gut are broken down into increasingly smaller pieces before passing into the body, in people with leaky gut syndrome these molecules can pass through the intestinal walls before these assimilation processes are complete. Bacteria, fungi, viruses, and toxins can also pass through a leaky gut, allowing them to enter the blood stream and gain direct access organs and tissues throughout the body. Some of the most common health problems associated with leaky gut syndrome are listed below: Weakened immune system: Leaky gut syndrome weakens the immune system by reducing its ability to ward off pathogens at their point of entrythe GI tract. Inflammation of intestinal walls damages the protective coating surrounding immunoglobulin antibodies that are normally present in a healthy gut, rendering them inactive and removing an important line of defense. Nutritional deficiencies: In order to be transported into body where they are needed, minerals rely on carrier proteins that reside in the gut. These carrier proteins are also damaged by inflammation, making them unable to transport ingested minerals into the body for their utilization. In a similar way, very long periods of inflammation can also prevent the absorption of vitamins and essential amino acids, leading to other types of nutritional deficiencies. Liver toxicity: The liver is responsible for helping to keep bowel clean so that nutrients can be more efficiently absorbed and utilized by the body. When the bowel becomes overloaded with toxins, a tremendous burden is placed on the liver and can decrease its ability to work efficiently. Food allergies: Because increased gut permeability allows the absorption of proteins before they are completely broken down in the GI tract, some proteins passing through the intestinal wall and into the bloodstream are not recognized by the immune system, and are quickly and actively treated as invaders. Antibody production begins, and proteins from foods that were previously harmless begin to trigger allergic responses that can damage body tissues. Beyond allergies - Autoimmune disorders: Leaky gut syndrome is a precursor to almost all autoimmune disorders, in which the immune system actively attacks the body itself through runaway autoimmune responses that can cause extensive damage to body tissues. The biologically active components in colostrum are extremely effective in treating leaky gut syndrome, strengthening the immune system, and repairing tissues damaged by autoimmune disorders. Colostrum supplementation repairs damaged tissue and seals the mucous layer of the intestines, making them impermeable to large molecules and microorganisms and preventing the onset or further development of disease. In addition, growth factors contained in bovine colostrum can have an anti-inflammatory effect throughout the body, making colostrum important in the initial treatment of leaky gut syndrome and relieving the painful symptoms of many autoimmune diseases. Wipe the Icing from Your Face
By Maria Romain What do you do when youre at the wedding of a close friend or a loved one and you have a smudge of wedding cake icing on your face? Of course, you reach for your napkin. Not just any napkina personalized napkin. Most likely the napkin has the bride and grooms name and wedding date carefully imprinted on it in fancy silver or gold lettering. If youre the type of person that loves keepsakes and memorabilia, you may not like the idea of wiping your icing stained face with a thoughtfully, personalized dinner napkin. So, what do you do? Many of us have folded up our personalized napkin and stuck it in our purse, later finding ourselves tucking it away in a keepsake box or a scrapbook. This might sound a bit extreme to some, but its common to others. Many people enjoy collecting personalized items from the weddings of close friends and loved ones. Theres just something quite special about it. Personalized wedding favors are a great way to give your guests something special to take home. While most people like the idea of personalized napkins, it poses a problem when the napkin has to be destroyed by wiping stains from our mouths or clothing. After all, that is the original purpose. Dont misunderstand the logic being conveyed in this article. Personalized napkins are great, but they are not the most practical keepsake for your guests. They are meant to be used as napkins. So, why not consider investing in personalized match boxes, hang tags or a personalized plantable poem favor that grows real wild flowers? Now, thats a keepsake that could never be forgotten. Your wedding is the one event that your family and friends look forward to attending. Show your appreciation by personalizing your wedding favors. Not only are personalized wedding party favors thoughtful and unique, they are versatile as well. These gifts are not limited to weddings. Personalized favors can be given as gifts at bridal showers, baby showers, anniversary parties, birthday parties, milestone parties, retirement parties, graduation parties, etc. The possibilities are endless; dont limit yourself to a personalized napkin that will be tossed in the garbage. Invest in a unique party favor that your guests will always treasure. Maria Romain, founder of Academic Success Management, Inc. is a writer for HQ Wedding Favors. What Diet Plan Is Best For Losing Weight?
By Rich Rojas The answer to the title of this article is none. Thats right, no diet plan on its own is very effective for permanent weight loss. You can stop reading right now and go look for another magic bullet or you can stick around and hear the hard truth. Still here? Great! OK, the only method for achieving permanent weight loss is to combine a nutritionally balanced diet that consists of a calorie count slightly below what you need to maintain your present body weight along with regular exercise. Im sure youve probably heard this a thousand times before, but like any simple truth thats difficult to accept, it bears repeating. Dieting alone just isnt going to cut it! Sure, you can lose a few pounds on a calorie-restricted diet alone, but youll eventually hit a point where your body refuses to give up any more of itself. Most people then get frustrated and quit the diet. You know the rest of the story - you put back all of the weight you lost plus a few extra bonus pounds. Of course what you hopefully want to lose is body fat. Unfortunately, what you wind up losing when you just diet is a combination of water, fat, and lean muscle. The goal is to maximize fat loss while sparing your muscle tissue. The great thing about exercise is that when consistently applied, you slowly begin to raise your metabolic rate. So even when youre not active, your body is burning fat. This is the beauty of the one-two diet and exercise punch - the exercise keeps your internal furnace running hot and a lower calorie diet forces your body to throw more fat into the fire for fuel. So what diet should you choose in combination with an exercise plan? How about just keeping it simple? Avoid the following and you should be fine: * Saturated fats * Refined sugar * Preservative-laden foods such as hotdogs and lunch meats * Keep the following foods to a minimum: -- Ice cream -- Cakes and cookies -- Candy -- Soft drinks -- Chips -- Fried foods * Cut back on eating out. Pack your own lunch instead of going to KFC or MacDonalds on your lunch break. The higher-end restaurants have the additional trap of serving ridiculously large portions. * Speaking of smaller portions -- instead of a 22 oz steak, have a 4 oz steak. Better yet, have a piece of fish or a skinless chicken breast. For the exercise component, chose something that you will enjoy doing at least 4 times a week for 20-40 minutes. It could be a brisk walk, swimming, or my favorite, the elliptical trainer. Just be sure to set aside the time and then make the commitment to yourself to stick with it! So there you have it. Its not high tech or glamorous and it wont have you losing 50 lbs in a week, but it has been proven to work time and time again for countless people who have made it an integral part of their lives. So hopefully you wont ever start a diet again without partnering it up with an exercise routine! Why Home owners are looking for Unsecured Loans
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Kate_Ross]Kate Ross Homeowners, usually customers of secured loans, realized that the risk of repossession can exceed the benefits of secured loans and thus have decided to opt for unsecured loans. This is due to the fact that the benefits of secured loans can also be obtained by homeowners when applying for unsecured loans. Unsecured Loans are not that Risky Lenders that deal with unsecured loans do not have the right to collect money directly from the enforced sell of a borrowers asset. However the lender still holds the ability to pursue legal actions against the borrower in order to recover his money. That being said, applicants must understand that unsecured loans do not offer the possibility to be left unpaid.
The sum offered in unsecured loans is lower compared to the amount of money you can get from secured loans. Usually this kind of loans is used for going on vacation, buying furniture, paying off bills and other debts, etc. In order to get an unsecured personal loan, applicant ought to have a good credit history. This is due to the fact that there is a high risk involved in this kind of transactions for the lender and since there is no asset guaranteeing the loan. The borrowers personal credit will be the guarantee. What if I have Bad Credit If someone with bad credit wants to apply for an unsecured loan, he should get help from a mediator that will be able to assist in the filling of the application and the prior correction of some credit problems that are drawbacks at the time of applying. Repayment can take between 1 and 25 years, depending on the loan amount. You need to shop around and see what your options are. Usually applicants benefit from certain flexibility on the system of repayment, you should choose the scheme that best suits your needs and that which wont turn into an unbearable burden in the future. When applying for any kind of loan, and particularly for unsecured loans, you should pay special attention to the APR. Since the interest rate is usually higher in unsecured loans, you should compare what the lenders have to offer and try to find the lender that offers the lowest rate. Where to search You must research till you can find a good deal. The best alternative is to use the resources that internet provides. Youll find many online companies offering access to a wide variety of lenders dealing with unsecured loans. Concentrate on the APR, costs and fees to see if the loans are too expensive or not and watch the repayment plan and monthly installments to see if the loan suits your needs. Should The Groom Offer His Own Bachelor Party Ideas?
By Darren Hitz The answer is maybe Yes and maybe No Traditionally, one of the key responsibilities of the Best Man is to plan the Bachelor Partyalong with getting the Groom to the church on time and not forgetting the ring, toasts, etc. However in this hectic world, with guys living in different states, with a variety of schedules; planning a Bachelor Party and getting it right can be a chore. If the Groom wants to see all his best buddies and have an event full of laughs and memories, he and the Best Man may have to collaborate and take the following factors into account. * Whom should be invited?
* When should the event take place?
* How long should it last?
* How can it be made special?
* Who can make the arrangements? Whom should be invited? This is an important first decision, since the make-up and size of the group will have an effect on the rest of the planning. If relatives (Dad, a favorite Uncle, teenage brothers) are to be included it will influence what type of an event, where it happens and how long it lasts. Two and three day excursion or adventure weekends are becoming more popular and can accommodate participants of all ages. The focus is on adventure and making memories, along with celebration, so that older relatives and younger siblings dont feel out of place. The same type of event can also apply for best buddies that are scattered across the country. A geographically centered location coupled with a two/three day event reduces travel time and gives them time to relax and compare notes from the past and present. When should the event take place? There are several factors to be considered. If the Bachelor Party is to be a weekend adventure event it should be well separated from the wedding itself. This will give groomsmen from out of town time to return home, get back to work and regroup before leaving for the wedding. Also some types of bachelor parties ideas encompass adventures that are best done at certain times of the year, eg lake fishing, white water rafting. Local bachelor parties with local groomsmen can be held the weekend prior to the wedding or the more traditional night before the wedding. If the plan is for a destination adventure weekend, then plans and reservations should be made early, using only reputable tour company with Bachelor Party experience. How long should the Bachelor Party last? Weekend events are becoming much more common. They last from Friday night to Sunday afternoon, and some even start on Thursday. This gives those from out of town, time to travel and also allows everyone to relax, socialize, relive memories and start some new ones. Everything from golfing to sky diving is now being considered for these gatherings. These are mini-vacations for a group of friends and, in some cases, have turned into annual events. Everyone pays their own transportation costs. The weekend ground costs are usually split between all the groomsmen so that the Groom goes free. Everyone is usually surprised how reasonable the costs are, considering this is a mini-vacation and a chance to experience something new for the group. How can the Bachelor Party be made special This is where the Best Man and the Groom need to put their heads together. What is it that would make this a memorable occasion for the Groom? It is more than consuming as much beverage as possible and waking up the next day with a strange tattoo. Great memories are made of sharing an adventure, a special dinner, or sitting around a campfire telling tales from the past. Herding cattle and then challenging each other to ride a mechanical bull makes for a never to be forgotten weekend. Special T-shirts, with the date and Grooms name, videos of the adventureeven an engraved memento to be presented to the Groom at the wedding reception are now becoming more common bachelor party ideas. Who can make the arrangements? As was indicated in the opening, planning a memorable and exciting Bachelor Party can be complicated and often is overwhelming for the Best Man, even with bachelor party ideas from the Groom. The important thing is keep the idea, not lose the enthusiasm and let someone else do all the planning. Destination weddings have been around for years, and wedding planners or bridal consultants have used their knowledge to take the pressure off the Bride. Now the same logic can be applied to the Bachelor Party. New tour companies have set up weekend adventures with just the right touch, just the right location, just the right ingredients, to meet everyones expectation. Lets face it.weddings arent everyday eventsand the Bride certainly has lots of input. Why should Bachelor Parties be different? The Groom should have input and can do everything from hint to the Best Man, to picking the adventure. Brides love the idea of her fianc involved in something other than the traditional wild party, so go for it guys! Darren Hitz is the Founder of Adventure Bachelor Party (ABP). ABP plans unique, adventure-based trips for groups of friends looking to make great memories. By planning everything from the lodging to the adventure, ABP allows the groom and his friends to enjoy the experience without all the worries and hassle of planning a group trip. Sculpture Can Bring Life to Your Garden
By Beau Smith I should know: Ive been a sculptor most of my life, and I have plenty of years behind me of experience. Most of my sculptures reside in the gardens and landscaped outdoors of residences. My work is also in public places such as parks and downtown areas. But in this article, I want to focus on residences. Im going to suggest what kind of sculpture to look for. Let me begin by saying that your garden and landscaped outdoors is a sacred place. But of course you know that, otherwise you wouldnt be reading this article. The outdoors of your residence, being a sacred place, deserves art that is exceptional. So you have to spend a little more for it. Listen, you get what you pay for. Further, you get the experience you pay for. The nice thing about original art is that, even though you pay more for it, you get more. The life of a work of sculpture should be indefinite. It should be able to remain outdoors without withering away. So, the initial investment is more. But you get more, a lot more. I would go so far as to say that original art for the garden is the best outdoor art investment, if, of course, you can find work that is truly art and not junk disguised as art. Probably, you will want to include, in your outdoor sanctuary, human-crafted items that are not art: cement casts, gravel, building materials, and so on. Here, you want to integrate these items with the landscape. It is fine if the cement casting of Saint Francis has moss growing on it. Ivy trickling over a retaining wall is desirable. But when you put the art in this setting, you want to show it off. If you dont want to show it off, dont buy it. The sculpture should be the capstone, what brings everything together. The sculpture should enhance and amplify the life of your outdoor landscape. The sculpture should provide a doorway into the majesty of the garden and landscape. All you need do is look at the sculpture and you feel a connection to nature. You can be looking at the sculpture from a window inside your home, or you can be outside. Either way, the sculpture connects you to nature. I dont, then, advise you buy works of craft to deposit here and there in your outdoor landscape. Dont do that unless the work of craft has sentimental value or is in some other way exceptional to you. Craft is cheaper than art: cheap in price and cheap in QUALITY. Instead, buy less and get more. If you can only afford one original work of sculpture, do that rather than buy many craft pieces. Your outdoor landscape is not going anywhere and neither is the art, especially if you secure it, which you should, and which it is possible to do without making such securing permanent. Before you become worried that you will have to pay dearly for original art, let me reassure you: You can find original art at a moderate and affordable price. You can find it on the Net and you can probably find it locally as well, especially if you live near a city. Many garden shops sell sculptures on consignment. Thats one good place to look. But there are many. I dont suggest galleries because the work will be too expensive. If expense is not so much a concern, then go to the galleries. Go to the galleries anyway because here there is a weeding out process and you are more likely to find exceptional art and thereby have more awareness of whats good. For deals, you might find one at the gift shop of a botanical gardens. I have my work in the Atlanta Botanical Gardens gift shop. There, my work is moderately priced and exceptional. But what you can also do is look around a botanical garden and see if you can find original sculpture that appeals. You can then inquire at the gift shop or at the front counter or call the gardens. Because botanical gardens and similar places of beauty are set up primarily as non-profit, they are not going to want a large commission for referring an artist. As you know, galleries are infamous for insisting on taking a large portion of the sale for themselves, as much as 60 percent. I suggest going to the expensive places to get a feel for good art (though not all of it is good, I have to tell you). Then shop around. The only danger here is that you may find, in the galleries, a sculptor you like so much you just have to own his work. Well, thats the danger. If price is an issue, I dont think this will be too much of a problem. How does one spot inexpensive-but-exceptional original sculpture? This is what you look for: Sculptures made with materials and techniques available to craftspeople and folk artists. The difference between craft and art should be evident. Art is of higher quality. You will also know when someone produces higher caliber work because that work sells for more than craft, but not so much more than you cannot afford it. A sculptor may have work that goes outside of your budget. Many who inquire about my large frog sculptures decide quickly that the price is too high for them. Even so, my frog sculptures are incredibly affordable considering that I am a highly skilled artisan as well as a professional sculptor with over 16 years of professional experience. Further, the large sculptures I produce are comparable to bronzes, at a fraction of the cost. But I also produce smaller work that is quite affordable. I do so because I want people to gain interest in possibly buying a larger work later. Dont buy craft. A craftsperson makes the same thing over and over again. Thats not art. It may seem that I produce the same thing over and over again. After all, I am making large human-size copper frogs. How different can each one be? Very. Each piece is incredibly unique. I learn something from each piece I build. An artist can focus on one theme and never repeat himself, even though his designs may seem or actually be similar. A craftsperson who wants to make a living will often find he has to hire others to help him crank out his pieces. This is not art. This is moving in the direction of factory-made shlock. Even so, something made by hand does offer warmth and life that a factory-made item cannot. But wouldnt you rather have original art? Nature itself is so beautiful that it deserves only the best from us. Very few materials can stand the test of time outside. Original art for outdoors will have to be made of metal, clay, cement, stone, glass, or a combination. Wood will not stand the test of time outdoors. Neither will synthetic resins. One sculptor friend of mine recycles old farm equipment and the like. He works primarily in stainless steel, and his work is exceptional. This is a method: Working with recycled metals. Not every artist is capable of achieving art through any given medium, this one included. I have seen plenty of sculpture that is unexceptional. What makes a sculpture, or any other piece of art, for that matter, exceptional? Art has life. The sculpture lives, it breathes, it has substance and depth. You cannot help but to feel that it is a part of your landscape, a force just as much alive as the plants and the creatures that inhabit your outdoor landscape. So plan for original art to live in your outdoor landscape. Look around. You can find a deal and get original art thats good. It is worth the effort. Once you have the art, you enjoy it for as long as you decide to keep it, which may be for the rest of your life. Such a purchase, then, is worth taking time over. Happy hunting. He has written and published one book on his sculptures, and written, designed, and published his web site, beautifulfrog.com.
